A historic marker was recently unveiled in downtown West Monroe honoring Webb Pierce, a native of West Monroe and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The marker was unveiled August 26 as part of the Northeast Louisiana Music Trail. Friends, family and fans gathered to view the unveiling including Pierce's son Webb Pierce Jr.
Michael Webb Pierce was born in 1921 in West Monroe. He is considered a major recording artist and performer and had 13 No. 1 hits and was a headliner on the Louisiana Hayride and Grand Ole Opry. Some of his hits included "Wondering," "There Stands the Glass" and "In the Jailhouse Now." Webb Pierce was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
The marker is located in a public parking lot at the corner of Trenton and Wood Streets in downtown West Monroe. The video link below highlights the recent unveiling ceremony:
